Upcoming Roguelike Games – September 2024

On this regularly updated page, I’ll share key launch day information about intriguing roguelike games set to release in the upcoming weeks. While I’m excited to highlight these titles, please note that many games will be omitted to keep things streamlined. For a broader look at new releases, be sure to check out the weekly Gone Rogue series.

With surprise game launches happening all the time, I’ve done my best to spotlight the most noteworthy titles. However, some may slip through the cracks. I’ll add any late discoveries I find and include links to archived articles at the end for easy bookmarking.

The Best New Roguelikes – September 2024

  • Necroking | September 4th | PC (Mac, Win)
Kickstarting this month’s list is Necroking, featuring charming pixel-art tactics. The Steam listing boasts extensive deckbuilding, which has me intrigued. As a skeleton lord, you’ll reanimate the dead to take down the living in a delightfully sinister way.
  • Shogun Showdown | September 5th | PC (Lin, Mac, Win), PS5, Switch, Xbox
I’ve been playing Shogun Showdown for a while, and it’s hard to believe it’s still in Early Access. The game focuses on crafting a deck of cards/tiles for intense combat encounters against a growing roster of enemies. This is hands-down one of my favorite deckbuilders and likely to be a standout title this month.
  • Demon’s Mirror | September 5th | PC (Win)
Demon’s Mirror offers an intriguing blend of roguelike deckbuilding and match-3 gameplay—both known for their addictive qualities. I’ve tried a demo and enjoyed it, although I’d like more time with it before giving a full endorsement. Early signs are promising!
  • Break the Empire | September 6th | PC (Win)
In Break the Empire, you play the villain, tasked with assassinating a fantasy kingdom’s emperor. This pixel-art action-RPG features three starting characters, including a fiery imp and a cult leader. With promises of permadeath, unique builds, and high replayability, this title is definitely one to watch.
  • Roots of Yggdrasil | September 6th | PC (Win)
If you love deckbuilders, check out Roots of Yggdrasil. You’ll command a floating ship navigating a post-Ragnarok world filled with floating islands. Explore the Nine Realms, help establish new settlements, and play the cards dealt to you along the way.
  • Terrorformer TD | September 9th | PC (Lin, Mac, Win)
I’ve been keeping an eye on Terrorformer TD. While it may look simplistic, it offers a deeply tactical take on the emerging roguelite tower defense genre.
  • Utopia Must Fall | September 9th | PC (Mac, Win)
I’m quite taken with the vector-inspired retro graphics in Utopia Must Fall, an action-roguelike where you defend humanity from angular aliens. Unlock upgrades during each run, so improving your skills is essential to access the best abilities.
  • Lindwyrm | September 10th | PC (Win)
Lindwyrm sounds like a mixed bag of fun, featuring action-roguelite hack ‘n’ slash gameplay, platforming, puzzle-solving, and base-building. This hybrid dungeon-crawler also includes co-op for up to four players and is currently in Early Access, with a full launch planned for next year.

Stay tuned for more updates on upcoming releases!
