Sportal is a new FPS where sporting gear turns deadly (and I’m lacrosse I didn’t think of it first)

A new game has just caught my attention: Sportal. This title promises the kind of retro-FPS fun I can’t resist, featuring PS1-era 3D graphics and a delightfully absurd take on sports gear. I’m eager to learn more!

Developed by Sleepwalking Potatoes and published by Retrovibe, Sportal recently launched its Steam page, showcasing intriguing screenshots and some flavorful plot details.

The story is delightfully bizarre. In Sportal, your character visits a cinema that catapults them into a surreal 1950s-inspired world. According to the announcement, this reality-bending roguelike shooter is packed with secrets and clues that unravel the mystery of your predicament.

Once transported to this strange dimension, you won’t be wielding traditional firearms. Instead, you’ll have access to “a vast array of sporting goods” to aid your survival. Expect to encounter “spiked baseballs, lightning-infused hockey pucks, exploding golf balls, and bladed bowling balls.”

The game will feature half a dozen movie-themed arenas, each populated with era-inspired monsters. Gear upgrades will offer “tens of enhancements” for each sporting item, encouraging you to mix and match in pursuit of the perfect combination.

There isn’t much else to share at this point, aside from the planned 2025 release date. That gives us a while to wait, so be sure to wishlist Sportal on Steam to stay updated!
